Passenger numbers at Bulgaria’s coastal airports increased

Fraport Group, the operator of Bulgaria’s coastal airports in Varna and Burgas, has reported an 8.8% year-on-year increase in combined passenger traffic for both facilities in July, reaching a total of 810,866 passengers.

Specifically, Varna Airport experienced a notable rise of 14.7% in passenger volume compared to the previous year, recording 294,418 passengers last month. Meanwhile, Burgas Airport saw a growth of 5.7%, totaling 516,448 passengers, according to Fraport Group’s recent monthly traffic report.

The overall passenger numbers across both airports in July reached 65% of the traffic levels recorded during the same month in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

During the first seven months of 2023, the combined passenger traffic at these two coastal airports reached 2.02 million passengers, marking a significant annual increase of 27%. Varna Airport contributed 1.06 million passengers to this total, as per the provided data.

Regarding aircraft movements, take-offs and landings at both airports displayed growth of 5.5% year-on-year, reaching 5,401 in July, and a robust 20.8% annual increase, reaching 15,035, over the seven-month period ending in July.
